What to Expect when Applying

​Ismaili undergraduate rising seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. 

The application consists of three components. Please prepare your submission before starting the application.

Application components:
1. Background information form, which includes:
- Demographic and contact information
- Confirmation of eligibility (U.S. citizens only)
- Information about your political affiliations (if any)

2. Application document to be submitted as a single PDF, which includes:
- 1 page cover letter
- 1 page resume
- Academic transcript
- Responses to program questions:
     Question 1: How will the summer fellowship fit your career goals in public service?
     Question 2: Why is it important for Ismailis to build careers in public service?
     Question 3: How would you add value to the office you may be working in?
- Names and contact information for 2 recommenders
[Please note: incomplete or partial submissions will not be considered]

3. Phone interviews with program team members and current/former Ismailis on the Hill
[Only select applicants will be invited to interview]

 

The 2026 application will open in mid-December 2025 and close on January 31, 2026.

Applicants will be selected using a criteria that includes:
- Professional and academic achievements
- Ability to create a positive impact in a congressional office
- Interpersonal capabilities, communication skills, and ability to be an ambassador for Islam
- Proven commitment to improving democracy and Ismaili representation in the democratic process
- Potential for long-term public service, leadership, and career advancement
- Plans for incorporating the fellowship experience into your career goals
